America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Wichita Mountains Byway (Oklahoma)

Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway represents what years ago was known as the Western Frontier--rolling prairies, tall mountain peaks, and clear blue skies. Although the West is not nearly as wild today, rediscover the rugged beauty of southwest Oklahoma at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. In addition to the refuge's remarkable scenery and rare undisturbed natural prairie, see herds of endangered bison and elk, or flocks of wild turkey and black-capped vireo roaming free throughout the area.
