Hells Canyon Scenic Byway Featured in VIA Magazine

July 2, 2009

""Yeeeee-haw!" Ken Erough cried, having waited more than 70 years for the opportunity to howl at the towering walls of Hells Canyon. "Lordy, mama! That's what I'm talkin' about!" Then the raft lurched again, this time straight down. If you have never seen a silver-haired septuagenarian suddenly take flight against the blue skies of eastern Oregon, that alone is worth the trip to one of the Northwest's most scenic—and uncrowded—natural wonderlands."

VIA magazine, a travel magazine for AAA members in Northern California, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Oregon, and southern Idaho, recently published an article about Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in its July/August 2009 issue. Article author Bruce Newman highlights his journey along the byway, which included stopping at fascinating historic sites, admiring scenic views, and embarking on a river-rafting adventure on the Snake River.
