America's Byways® Press Room
April 12, 2005 - 2005 Indiana National Road Yard Sale Days

The weekend of June 4th, 2004, was the first to conduct the Indiana National Road Association Yard Sale, which filled Henry and Wayne Counties with hundreds of people, many from out of state. License plates from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama were just a few noted parked along the highway. The Historic National Road (US40) was practically bumper to bumper between Knightstown and Richmond, Indiana.

Plans are now underway to conduct the 2005 Indiana National Road Yard Sale Days for a full 5 days between Richmond and Terre Haute, beginning on June 1st and ending June 5th, from dawn to dusk. This translates into over 150 miles of bargains to look for fresh produce, antiques, furniture and more!

The idea is to bring travelers from the busy Interstate System to the less traveled Highway, and will include the communities along the National Road (aka Antique Alley) in Wayne, Henry, Hancock, Marion, Hendricks, Putnam, Clay and Vigo Counties. It will also provide travelers an opportunity to explore one of America’s Scenic Byways. So put this 2005 event on your calendars to either find bargains or sell your wares! It is anticipated that this will continue to be an annual event, and to continue to get bigger and better each year. Merchants, participants and venders are asked to comply with local ordinances, regulations or permits.
