April 12, 2005 - National Geographic's "Ultimate RV Drive" Vignettes Now Airing
Four all-new RV destination vignettes entitled “Ultimate RV Drives” began running on the National Geographic Channel in late March and will continue through the end of June.
The vignettes, featuring National Scenic Byways in Arizona, California, Colorado and Illinois, combine spectacular National Geographic footage of scenic byways with RV shots from Go RVing’s new DVD. The 30-second segments were arranged by Go RVing’s advertising agency, The Richards Group, to air a total of 32 times as an added-value for the $340,000 media buy on the network.
All four vignettes, produced by National Geographic under the guidance of Go RVing, show detailed maps of the area, feature several different types of RVs and end with the tagline: “For more ultimate RV drives along America’s scenic byways visit GoRVing.com.”
Kaibab Plateau North Rim Parkway in Arizona
The Arizona vignette features wide-eyed children staring out the windows of RVs as they traverse one of the Grand Canyon’s best kept secrets, the 32-mile Kaibab Plateau North Rim Parkway. This isolated stretch of highway runs through Kaibab plateau and over lush forests, ending at one of the Grand Canyon’s highest points. Travelers are advised to give themselves at least an hour drive time and to keep their eyes open for distinctive wildlife.
Pacific Coast Highway in California
The California vignette features families in RVs taking in the breathtaking views of the state’s Pacific Coast Highway, Route 1, including the Bixby Bridge and Point Sur Lighthouse. This nationally acclaimed stretch of highway is known for its amazing overlooks and plentiful camping spots for RV travelers.
The Great River Road in Illinois
The Illinois vignette features the The Great River Road, stretching 550 miles alongside the eastern shore of the Mississippi River. Small towns with rich history share the byway with sprawling outdoor wonders like the Shawnee National Forest.
The San Juan Skyway in Colorado
The Colorado vignette showcases the historic and scenic treasures of The San Juan Skyway. Small Colorado towns at high elevations, the Mesa Verde National Park and the Narrow Gauge Railroad are all highlights of the 236 mile drive.
