April 18, 2008 - Bald Eagles Nest on George Washington Memorial Parkway

A pair of bald eagles has set up housekeeping in Arlington, VA this spring, raising eaglets in a tree in the median of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. They are the third pair of the birds, now on the rebound from endangered-species status, to settle near Washington’s bustling core.

Growth has meant that eagles have begun moving closer and closer to heavily populated areas.

“They’re not as shy as they used to be,” said Craig Koppie, an eagle expert with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
