A Traveler's Experience

Cycling may not be the recommended way of traveling SR-12, but it is an absolutely unforgettable experience. Last Saturday, I had the chance to bike from the town of Boulder to an overlook on the other side of the Escalante River. It was a relatively quiet, off-season day so there wasn't much traffic. (which was important because there is not much of a shoulder most of the way.) As I traversed a long, undulating spit of rock called the Hogsback and started my descent into the Escalante Canyon, I was touched by the unmatched beauty of this vast area. The road seems to follow the contour of narrow puffy clouds, floating high above rugged canyons and multi-colored sandstone. Although relatively short, it was perhaps my most exhilarating bike ride thus far.
