Edge of the Wilderness (MN)

It was a cloudy day, but that didn't stop us from driving the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway. And we were amazed! Well, there was the wild beauty of the forests and lakes, of course, but there was also something unexpected. We happened upon this byway on their annual "Bargains are Great on Hwy 38" day. The road was lined with rummage sales. House after house. There must have been dozens! Cars were parked in the most casual fashion alongside the road and in driveways, and folks strolled and chatted and browsed and bought. If I hadn't been pressed for time (and luggage space) I would have come away with some remarkable bargains. I still regret those casserole dishes...my mom's old pattern!
