A Traveler's Experience

I recently drove the Midland Trail from Sam Black's Church (I-64) to Charleston, West Virginia. It is a lovely drive and I recommend it.
The country is beautiful, and there are a few extra stops I think everyone should make. I got off route 60, and went south on State Route 19, so I could visit the New River Valley National Park. This is a wonderful stop. They have a new pavilion with very good, but not an overwhelming amount of information. They also have a spectacular view of the New River. There is a boardwalk trail down to views of the river, the incredible bridge and the valley. This gives you a chance to get out of the car and stretch your legs. There are picnic facilities available, but no food services. I wish I had packed a picnic lunch, because there really is very little on this drive until you get closer to Charleston. After looking at the New River, I got back on the road and continued west on Route 60. Next stop is the Hawk's Nest State Park. This is a must. Spectacular overlook. Facilities are available, though I did not venture in.
This is an easy drive with a lot of winding, turning roads, great views and great fun!
