A Traveler's Experience

We rode the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway during a 17-day motorcycle trip across the United States. The Black Hills are breathtaking and the byway is the only way to see them! We meandered through the hills on the Iron Mountain Road and the Needles Highway, saving Mount Rushmore for last. Riding through rock tunnels and catching glimpses of Mount Rushmore was cool but the thrill of riding around a curve and coming face to face with buffalo was awesome! The pine trees and the twisty roads make for a wonderful motorcycle ride, but having the road to ourselves in the early morning made it almost magical.
What Others Have Said
cc0924 on April 20, 2008 (traveled on June 23, 2004)The Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway is one of the most interesting I've ever been on. I've been on a lot before, but this one had such a great variety of activities to do. Sure, Mt. Rushmore was the big thing along the byway, but there were a lot of other things that I thought were amazing.
RoadSox on August 27, 2005 (traveled on August 21, 2005)What a find! The Norbeck Scenic Byway's Iron Mountain Road was a wonderful experience in every way. Natural wonders, man-made wonders like the unique pigtail bridges, pleasant chance encounters with people from around the country, and of course, those views of Mt. Rushmore.
