My wife and I spent Christmas 2007 in the Cannery Row Holiday Inn Express and had the most wonderful Christmas ever. We attended midnight mass at the Carmel Mission (San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission). The drive from our hotel to the service was almost magical, with a heavy mist and fog crossing the roadway as we made our way under the dew-drenched cypress.

Was great to get help paying for gas, share the driving, and make the way more interesting with conversation about the Beat Poets and William Randolph Hearst. We hooked up via craigslist rideshare, which -- contrary to popular belief -- is not sketchy at all.
