A Traveler's Experience
Louie on August 22, 2009 (traveled on August 17, 2009)International Selkirk Loop (ID, WA)
We had relatives visiting from Cheyenne, WY for
a few days and wanted to take an overnight trip
to Canada (where they had never been.) We chose
to take the Selkirk Loop and stay overnight at
Ainsworth Hot Springs.
We crossed the border at Nelway and drove to Castlegar. There we walked over the footbridge to Zuckerburg Is. and had a picnic. Then to Nelson for some shopping. On to Ainsworth for relaxing soaks in the caves, hot tub, and pool. A delicious dinner of wild salmon and Ainsworth chicken and we were ready for bed.
Next morning we took the free BC ferry from Balfour to Crawford Bay. Beautiful ride and scenery. At Crawford Bay we toured the corn broom shop, glass blowers, barefoot weaver, iron forge, and others. Took home some brooms and glassware. On to the glass bottle house (made of 600,000 empty formaldahyde bottles from the mortuary business in the NW.) Lunch in Creston and visit to the Kokanee brewery (samples and a picture of Bigfoot.)
Our visitors said it was one of the best overnight
trips they had ever taken.
