A Traveler's Experience
mssuzieq on August 27, 2009 (traveled on August 17, 2009)Beartooth Highway (MT, WY)
Approximately 10+ miles of this roadway is currently under construction. The last 5 miles up and then the first 5 miles down (the entire summit) is loosely packed gravel. You have a pilot truck leading one line up and one line down at a time. Wait time can be up to 30 minutes. Motorcycles, use extreme caution! You are on your own in bi-directional traffic on the Cooke City side.
Still beautiful though.. Very cold for August.. Still ice on the ridges.
