A Traveler's Experience

Although I live smack-dab in the middle of downtown Atlanta, I can get to the Talledega Scenic Drive in an hour (or so.) This leaves me no excuse not to have fantastic sunrise, sunset and everything in between pictures. This is definitely the closest National Scenic Byway to downtown Atlanta. I was bored early one morning so I grabbed my Nikon, hopped in my Z car, and headed west down I-20 on a solo mission. I got to the top of Cheaha Mountain in perfect time for a beautiful sunrise. Who knew Alabama had mountains??? The top of Cheaha Mountain is a modest 2,407 ft. but the key is the lack of any other mountains to either the east or west, allowing for both beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Perfect for photographers. Here is a beautiful sunrise picture.
One notable addition to my experience I almost regret to add. On the way back to Atlanta I stopped about 30 miles outside of Atlanta for some coffee, got back on I-20 -- and about 45 min later saw the "Welcome to Alabama" sign again. I thought I was part of the Dumb & Dumber movie!
What Others Have Said
brock on April 8, 2010 (traveled on May 24, 2009)Relaxing meandering drive. Weather was nice-a little overcast (which made for good photos) warm but windy. Scenery was enjoyable but vistas were overgrown which limited some views.
