Route 140- Mariposa County Scenic Highway is aptly named for its summer views that never fail to inspire. The route begins in the town of Mariposa, southeast of the Yosemite National Park. The small town of Mariposa, named for the fields of beautiful mariposa flowers that surround the town, is the starting point of your journey. Spend an afternoon viewing rare gems, paleontology, and gold stamping at the fascinating Mineral Museum in Mariposa. Then head north to the Merced River. Some of the best whitewater rafting in the state can be found here, at any level of experience.
