Looking for the perfect place to take your kids to cool off during the hot summer? Look no further than Lake Tahoe on the Lake Tahoe - Eastshore Drive in Nevada. Lined by sandy beaches and the snow-capped mountains of the Nevada/California border, this byway takes you along Lake Tahoe, one of the nation’s premier water recreation destinations.

For an adrenaline rush the whole family can enjoy, try some of the exciting high-speed boating options offered at Zephyr Cove. Cruise along the lake's clear blue water, or kick your adventure up a notch and go waterskiing and wakeboarding. Your kids will love riding a tube in the wake of a speedboat or swimming in the invigorating waters of the lake (average surface water temperature in the summer: about 68º F.) Your older kids can get an even bigger adrenaline rush parasailing, offered at the Zephyr Cove Marina. Strapped into a parasail and tethered to the back of a motorboat, they’ll soar up to 1,400 feet over Lake Tahoe and get an incomparable aerial view of the crystal-clear lake, idyllic beaches, and dense evergreen forests.

If you have a boat of your own, take the byway three miles north from Zephyr’s Cove to the boat launch at Cave Rock. Before you push off into the waters, though, make sure your boat is clean and mussel-free, as quagga and zebra mussels could devastate the Lake Tahoe habitat. Also be aware that your boat may be subject to inspection.

For more wet-and-wild excitement along the Lake Tahoe – Eastshore Drive, visit Sand Harbor. At this Nevada state park, spend a leisurely day with your kids fishing for rainbow trout or brave the bracingly-cool lake waters and go for a swim. Beach patrol is on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so your kids will cool off in a safe environment. When you come back onshore, enjoy the harbor’s lovely, fine-grained white sand that’s perfect for frolicking, picnicking, and just plain relaxing.

For aquatic adventure and fun in the sun this summer, take your family for a ride along Lake Tahoe on the Lake Tahoe - Eastshore Drive, a route to a kid-friendly day in the sun.
