Surrounded by scenic national forests, the Garnet Back Country Byway runs 12 miles through mountainous Montana, passing not only excellent trail systems, but also the byway’s namesake, the Garnet ghost town. Winding amidst the Blackfoot River Valley, the Swan Range, the Mission Mountains, and the Bob Marshall Wilderness, the byway welcomes the outdoor enthusiast in every season.
Come on snowmobiles, cross-country skis, or snowshoes during the winter. You'll find warming booths along the way, where you can relax and escape the cold after playing in the snow. Or come to the byway corridor during warmer seasons for mountain biking, hunting, camping, fishing, and hiking. Pay a visit to the visitor's center at the Garnet Ghost town to learn about this well-preserved remnant of the past.
Scenic beauty, outdoor adventures, and historic sites along this short but sweet BLM byway culminate in an experience that will make you want to return in every season.
