Watch for remnants of the Saline Valley Salt Works, including salt tram towers, summit stations, and the tram itself as you travel this 100-mile type II byway. The tramway, which operated between 1911 and 1913, was once the steepest in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Venture down a side road heading east and find yourself deeper in Death Valley National Park, the lowest elevation point in the Western Hemisphere.
