Rustle Your Way Through Radiant Millstone Valley

Published on Oct 25, 2010 in Get Outdoors! For Fall Fun

Each October, the forests and fields of New Jersey burst into blazing shades of gold and scarlet.  Come absorb the history of the Canal Era amidst the splashes of autumn color along New Jersey’s Millstone Valley Scenic Byway.

On the south end of the byway, take a stroll through Kingston Lock 8, a park rich in historic waterways and structures dating back to the early 1800s. Stop at the historic Locktender’s House, home of the Kingston Historical Society, and browse exhibits about local canal history. Or launch a canoe from the park into the Millstone River or the Delaware & Raritan Canal, and paddle your way through colorful reflections of trees along the bank. One of the park’s most recognizable features is a lovely arched stone bridge. When covered with cascading fall foliage, this bridge can only be described by one word – magical.

Local hardwoods such as oak, beech, aspen and cherry embrace their fall finery as you rustle your way through fall along the Millstone Valley Scenic Byway. For more information about fall foliage times and locations along the byway, check the Fall Foliage Network for the latest Northeast U.S. fall foliage report.
